The background

Before real estate, Mike studied economics at UT Austin and spent several years working as a software engineer. That combination — quantitative reasoning plus systems thinking — shapes how he approaches every transaction.

Real estate in DFW isn't short on agents. What's harder to find is someone who'll actually help you compare three suburbs with different school districts, builder reputations, and resale trajectories, put it side by side, and give you a straight opinion on which one fits your situation better.

That's the job Mike does. Not just open doors and write offers, but help buyers, sellers, and relocating families make a well-informed decision on one of the biggest financial choices of their lives.

Why DFW, and why these suburbs specifically

Mike is based in Dallas. He covers Collin County and the North/East DFW corridor because that's where he's actually embedded — going to the same neighborhoods, watching the same builder communities open, seeing which new roads cut commute times, knowing which school districts are growing their capacity and which ones are stretched.

The suburbs he focuses on — Wylie, Murphy, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Melissa, Frisco, Princeton, Anna, Celina, Prosper, Richardson, Rowlett, Rockwall, Lavon, Sherman, Aubrey, Van Alstyne — each have genuinely different tradeoffs. Mike's content, both on Instagram and this site, is built around breaking those tradeoffs down in plain language.

How Mike works

Direct communication. No pressure, no scripted talking points. He'll tell you when a neighborhood is overpriced relative to comps, when a builder's incentives don't pencil out the way they're pitched, or when a suburb that looks appealing on paper doesn't match the way you actually described your commute tolerance.

Buyers get help from suburb selection all the way through closing. Sellers get a pricing strategy built from current market data, not the number you want to hear. New construction clients get someone in the room with them at the builder's office — not just a friendly face, but someone who's read the contract before and knows where the leverage is.

Relocating families get a research-first process: suburb shortlist before house tours, commute time reality checks, school zone verification, and a clear picture of what the area will look and feel like to live in — not just what the builder renderings show.

On Instagram

Mike creates regular real estate content on Instagram at @mikemcdonald_dfwrealtor — suburb breakdowns, school district rankings, new construction updates, market shifts, and local development news that affects home values and where people want to live in DFW. If you want to get a sense of how Mike thinks before reaching out, that's the place to start.
